Comments: McKinney Race
Doesn't this seem to suggest that McKinney is right to contend that her 2002 loss was the result of a large Republican crossover vote?

Some Republicans went back to the Republican primary, but not many. It was mostly the independents staying home this time, because McKinney ran a low key campaign and neither Levetan or Woolard made a big issue of running against her.

Actually the overall election was much lower because the primary was a month earlier this time around. 2 years ago it was in late August. The difference? 2 years ago it was during school, when people drop off their kids at what is often their polling location.
And if you go back and see what Cynthia really said about 9/11, not what the Cynthia hating AJC said, you will see that in hindsight she was correct, basically Fahrenheit 9/11 is about what she said.
ie. we had intelligence failures, rather than address that we Bush decided to use it as a cover for his military desires, desires driven by financial gain for his friends.
The financial gain for friends is not why the intelligence failed. The financial gain was a motivation for the reaction to 9/11.
It is frustrating that the media never reported the Cynthia McKinney's full statements correctly.
As to bringing home money to the district, Cynthia always has been eager to do that and still can. Congress is to big and to busy to target one person, heck she's co authored legislation with Republicans, the sniping is a part of the public game they all play.

On the contrary, I do believe the weather had an adverse affect on her opponents. Hooden-glaven

It had absolutely nothing to do with school being in or out and everything to do with the fact that approximately 25,000 voters who have never voted in a primary before or since voted in 2002 and didn't come back this time. And the reason why was that Levetan ran against Bush (instead of Cynthia) and Woolard ran against Levetan (instead of Cynthia). When Majette ran, and won, she ran agsint Cynthia.
Cynthia's suggestion that Bush knew about 9/11 and let it happen is still outrageous (though she hasn't been making it lately) and the fact that she and her father were anti-semetic still isn't forgivable and finally if you've been to South DeKalb you may come to a different conclusion other than Cynthia has brought home resources to her district.

South Dekalb is in trouble, property taxes, streets littered with debris, drugs, illiteracy. All of the federal resources that could be in play here if one single person in position to, would take it on. But McKinney would rather talk about foreign policy and palestinians than the troubles in her own back yard.

Well I agree her father comes from a different time and doesn't use appropriate words. I don't think he's anti semetic, after all he was the founder of the black/jewish group and broke ranks to support Marcus when he ran for mayor of Atlanta years ago.
As to Cynthia she is not anti semetic. Many making that charge are in fact members of AIPAC or other right wing groups hiding behind a larger group.
With foreign policy as it relates to military expenditures consuming so much funds its difficult to see how foreign policy doesn't connect to the district for a federal representative. As to litter on the streets etc. etc., she has gotten funds for that, but DeKalb County gov over the past 10 years has been amazingly slow.
McKinney's victory speech reflects her thoughts, it is on her website.:
"My vision for this District includes everyone, but we've all got to pull together to make it work.
I extend my hand in partnership to all who want to protect our values and secure our future.
The children of this district need our help. They need good homes; good schools; and secure futures."

I think Majette's connection with the Almighty perhaps was ona bad cellphone provider when “God told [her]” to run. While It would be nice to have her replace the Zell seat, she was acting irresponsibly in her vacation. Why didn't Lianna take up more of the ABC stance that Majette and others did back in '02?
