Comments: Non partisan analysis
Yes, Frost isn't a conservative, he just plays one on TV. And I'm really A O K with Democrats running with Bush in their home districts (As long as the caucus has enough D votes for speaker I'm cool), I just don't think that this guy or anyone who has to do stuff like that should be the head of the DNC. You reference McCain above, but I think it's a red herring; the skills for President are much different than those for party chairman. McCain's benefits as a presidential candidate are legion: sane government, bipartisan efforts, and sane government in general. This is great for a presidential race, but I want the head of the DNC to give no quarter. I want him to demagogue every issue. But I want him to do it well; the trouble ith McAuliffe is that he had a certain irony about his pronouncements, a glib smile that indicated he was just having a gas.
I have my doubts about Dean; he has his own social security weaknesses, and his campaign seems to have been very good at spending money with little result, and you're right, he is just some dark horse who had the right jockey. But at least he was willing to go with Trippi, and to try something new, even if it did come out of desperation. The Democrats should be desperate right now; the country is being run by a bunch of wackos and the Dems are ineffective at telling this very simple truth.
