Hold it Right There Alec Poitevint!
The Georgia GOP has been crowing for weeks about how more Georgians pulled a Republican ballot than a Democratic one. Some sources of mine tell me that now that the final numbers have come in, it may not be true! Stay tuned. (Of course, this is utterly meaningless but when you lose the Supreme Court race as badly as the Ga GOP did you have to have something to brag about).

It should be a warning to Republicans that they are much more in danger of crossover-blocking down ballot that the Democrats are. The huge margin between Sears and Brantley proved that Republicans are more likely to jump ballot sides as they move down the ballot. The Republicans shouldn't be cheering this! But oh well, much better to let them learn on their own.

Speaking of the GOP...
Did anyone read Zell's LTE in the AJC this morning? Is it just me, or does this guy come off as perpetually bitter & angry. I've never seen an elected official defend themselves on the opinion pages as much as Zell has. Most people don't read them anyway...just seems desperate.

Or how about our former Congressman's letter.
Dear Senator Miller,
As one who has followed your long and mercurial career in Georgia politics from a distance and from up close, I would appreciate it if you would join me in a public discussion of the problems the Democratic Party has in our beloved Southern region and the reasons for your recent concerns regarding our party's direction. As you know, I share many of those concerns and have been a very public voice on this matter.
But after seeing you on "Meet the Press" this past Sunday, it seems to me that your vicious attacks on your old friends need more explanation and a more reasoned examination. You have done an awful lot for Georgia, and Georgia Democrats have done even more for you. The impression I got from watching you with Tim Russert was that you are being somewhat disingenuous, stubborn, and, for lack of a better word, prickly. I also recognize those characteristics in myself, of course.
That is why I called you at your office and asked that you discuss this with me. Such an exchange of ideas, perhaps on one of the cable networks, would make for interesting television and would bring much needed attention to the party's lack of resonance in Dixie. I will be happy to debate these issues anytime, anywhere, anyhow. I left my home number with your Chief of Staff in case you are willing to do this. I would be surprised if you refused. Despite our occasional differences, you have always presented yourself as a man of courage and conviction. I look forward to your response.
Yours Truly, Ben Jones
